Following our texture unit we have moved into weaving and sewing. Kindergarten through second grade are working on artworks inspired by Brice Marden. They show depth through the use of multiple materials. They are also working on sewing skills by creating small needlepoints. Third grade is working on tree weaving. It is really fun and the outcomes are going to be GREAT. The fourth and fifth grade are working on traditional weaving and finger crocheting. Everyone seems to be loving these thread based projects. Images coming soon!

Valentines day is all about love, but I am not too interested in hearts and flowers. So, I decided to base our Valentine art on sharing kindness and love. After discussing Robert Indiana's LOVE sculpture in New York, the students talked about what it means to love someone. Words like helping, sharing, caring, friendship, and family were tossed around. Its nice to hear so many young people who have the right idea. Following our discussion the students created an artwork for someone that they feel fit their description of love. |
