Students in grades K-2 are creating fun penguins. We did a bit of research to learn more about these playful friends and then we created them for ourselves. The penguins were completed with oil pastels to show Value from light to dark.

The lower elementary students are creating abstract evergreens in the style of author and artist Eric Carle. We read many Eric Carle books in the artroom. His illustrations are unique and eye catching. Each one is a mixed media collage with many layers and colors. The students used crayon rubbings covered in paint to make their own collage paper. They then cut their paper into progressively smaller strips to build their trees. A marker trunk and some free form decorations were the final steps. I love how each one turned out so differently even with universal instructions.
